Jesse Marsch had called preparing for Morocco a gory, horrible nightmare, and the second half proved him right. Alphonso Davies never started, his hamstring shadow hanging over every attacking sequence Canada tried to build, and Jonathan David — so decisive throughout the group stage — found no crack in Morocco's defensive architecture. Their first half was yellow-card chaos rather than football, and when the second began with Morocco in control, Canada's reactive shape offered nothing.

Morocco were everything their tournament résumé promised, then added a chapter. Patient through a fractious first half full of bookings and confrontation, Regragui's side opened the second half with purpose — Ounahi's opener arrived from the kind of structured build-up that defines Atlas Lions football, his brace confirmed Morocco's dominance, and when Saibari limped off Rahimi stepped on to put the gloss on it in stoppage time. Brahim Diaz conducted the whole movement with two assists. Different heroes again: this time Ounahi and Rahimi; still the same collective soul that Morocco have carried through every knockout match.
